It strikes me that this isn't "straight culture" per se. It's more about all this baggage that is anchored to a conservative mindset that can't allow new ideas even if they work for someone and the old baggage doesn't. I expect that someone who identifies themselves in "queer culture" has already abandoned all that - by choice or by fire. They've been freed of the conservative mindset that doesn't fit them and replace it with something that does (i.e. this list). Something a straight boy like myself could find value in as well.

It's not like survival goods can just be raised in price universally, since profiteers compete. As long as social markets are effective at preventing cartels and (oligo/)monopolys, there is a chance that an inflation adjusted UBI could indeed end poverty.
As for motivation to work: I feel like humans are intrinsically motivated to do so. If working was optional, i think the only thing we'd see is people taking more breaks, but also becoming more selfish in that they'd rather work on themselves and their own big dreams than than step down and help facilitate a larger collective effort There is also a force missing that forces cooperation and compromise Things that are definetly required to complete a team project
But maybe i am wrong and the lessened pressure would actually result in more organic working structures, since bad employers have zero leverage to get people to work - and these organic structures could then create a productive environment

First - I want to thank everyone for being here - we created this site in a moment of despair after learning that the site that most of us had fled from Twitter too was just as corrupt as Twitter in its own way. Our goal was to create a haven for free speech and good people and I am very proud that we have succeeded.
Now, for the "But" - the issue is that we are pretty much out of funds. (CONT'D)
We have asked for contributions as infrequently as possible and each time we have been answered with a very generous outpouring of donations that have paid the bills for 3 and 6 months at a time. However, what we haven't gotten is enough recurring donations to keep us going perpetually.
@Andre and @surferistic and I saw this moment approaching back in the months before the election and at that time we decided that our goal was to keep the place running at a minimum through Nov 5 (CONT'D)
The consensus was that if we won the election, FA the USA would be once again on its way to freedom and greatness and we would no longer be as desperately in need of a place like FA. However, had we lost then we were determined to do whatever it takes to keep FA running through the coming dark days.
So this brings me to where we stand now - we have three options. (CONT'D)
The first option is that if we have enough sustaining contributions, we are happy to simply keep FA running as is.
The second option is that we are open to transferring the financial responsibility and management of the site to one of you if you have an interested.
And the final option is to simply and gracefully close our doors.
Our total operating costs are just over $200 per month, so this is not a big money operation, but we don't have the contributions to keep going... (CONT'D)
So with this said, I'd like to solicit everyone's input and, if now is finally the time, contributions. We are happy to maintain the status quo for as long as enough is coming in to pay the bills, but we have to be realistic and practical about the future.

@CarolEmmarie That sounds like a good idea. When we created this site, there was no safe place to go, but now we have both Truth Social and Twitter. I do think that there is still something to be said for this private little enclave, but if it can't be self-supporting, it just isn't worth it anymore...
I'm pleased that we arrived at this point with the optimistic outcome having eventuated, i.e., Trump's imminent return.

We have approximately 100 people who have been active in the last day, 200 that have been active in the last week, 250 that have been active in the last month, and all-time we have had approximately 4,500 users register. If less than have of the super-active people would pledge even $5 per month, or if 20% of them would pledge $10 per month, we would be fine, but right now we are only taking in about $60 per month so it is what it is...

@Lori Yes, I understand. But if you have a yearly membership program, you won't have to rely on erratic monthly donations. And the future, at least for a year at a time, is fairly guaranteed. I would gladly use a membership program; it works very well for those who depend on the donation aspect.

I’m in favor of the monthly membership fee. Hate the thought of losing my connection to such a compassionate, loving & patriotic group of folks. Our travels together have helped us to see the proverbial ‘light at the end of the tunnel,’ through the tough times as well as appreciate the truly good in everyone when we celebrate hard fought battles won. That's this weekend's #allotment vlog done, mostly just moving our unexpected woodchip bounty... including filling a 1.2m³ compost bay with the material and making a ventilation pipe for that bay... plus worries about microplastics from cutting/modifying plastic items like the ventilation pipe.

After 24 hours you could remove the ventilation pipe to reduce microplastics. By then the wood chip heap will have stabilised and it’ll leave the aeration hole in place when you remove the pipe.
I only put the downpipes in place temporarily when I’m building a pile. If the aeration hole starts to close up later (usually from bird or worm activity) I’ll just widen it with a wood or metal pole.
Your pile will hot compost very nicely with that mix of greens and browns. Lovely stuff.
@Broadfork good idea with removing the pipe, then it can be used for the next compost bin!
Most of my microplastic concerns come from the cutting the slits into the pipe. If it was to be used just as a former then you could just not bother with the slits at all... in fact it could even just be a wooden post I guess.
Yes any poles would be fine used as a former. With the caveat that using downpipes with air holes do help to bring a heap up to a hot composting temperature in that first crucial 24-48 hours.
Of course, fresh wood chip like yours won’t have that problem, that will get up to and maintain a hot temperature very nicely.
I have five salvaged mini downpipes. I’ll add them when I start a new pile and often when I turn a larger older pile. #Compost #Mulch
@Broadfork You guys are discussing exactly what I've been thinking about recently! I've just removed the plastic ventilation pipes from my pile. They certainly helped, but they were getting in the way of fresh material in the stage one lot, and I've been wondering about plastic pollution too, as I drilled holes in them. I'm thinking from now on I might stick with periodically aerating with stakes and just using the pipes when I start or turn a pile. 👍
@MostlyTato @Broadfork yeah, I'm not particularly comfortable with doing this to a pipe again... it generated a lot of plastic dust. But once I'd started I felt kinda committed to completing it. I was thinking of maybe poking holes through with a soldering iron but that's also potentially pretty toxic vapourising/burning PVC or ABS. Anyway, it's done now and will hopefully be an asset to our composting - as you suggest I'll use it when I fill a bay or turn material into an empty bay.
I will no doubt still need to cut plastic from time to time, but no need to proliferate it more than really necessary.

Not knowing enough about it I’d be wary of planting the wrong bamboo in case it gets out of hand. A screen of bamboo I could regularly cut for gardening uses would be quite good to have.
@alyssa @MostlyTato @Broadfork Yeah, I grew up with a few plants in Western Australia that were considered "destroy on sight" invasive and was amused to move to the UK and find people growing them ornamentally here... arum lilies being one of those, they have one on the property here and every time I see it my gut reaction is: EXTERMINATE! EXTERMINATE! The groundskeeper has actually sprayed that whole bed with glyphosate regularly* and it just shrugs it off... same as back home. Unkillable. But if it was back home the entire bed would be a mass of them, then the driveway, then the lawn, then the whole property... not just one tame little innocuous-seeming plant. 😂
Running bamboos can be a nightmare even here, but I suspect many aren't near as bad here as they might be in warmer wet climates.
* this is how the landlord prefers the "gardening" done, and we've adopted as much as we reasonably can already.

Oon töissä Saavutettavuuskirjasto Celiassa, joka tulee yhdistymään Kansallisarkiston ja Varastokirjaston kanssa - tai tarkemmin sanottuna meidät yhdistetään Kansallisarkistoon. Esityksessä Celiaa koskevat lait ja pykälät löytyvät kohdista "Laki Kansallisarkistosta" ja "Laki lukemisesteisten kirjastopalveluista".
Kotuksen yksi ehdotus viraston nimeksi olisi ollut "Arkisto- ja kirjastovirasto" (ihanan virastomainen), joka olisi edes jotenkin kuvastanut muuttuvia tehtäviä.
"Laki Saavutettavuuskirjasto Celiasta" pelkistyy siis "laiksi lukemisesteisten kirjastopalveluista" ja nämä tehtävät siirtyvät Kansallisarkiston hoidettaviksi. Mulle ei ole ihan selvää, miksi tässä tehdään kaksi eri lakia, eikä yhtä lakia Kansallisarkistosta. Mulla on omia uumoiluja syiksi.
Onhan tämä alusta asti ollut aika epätavanomainen yhdistyminen. Kansallisarkiston asiakkaat ovat pitkälti aikuiset tutkijat ja julkisen hallinnon muut tahot.
Celian asiakkaina ovat henkilöt, joilla on lukemisen vaikeuksia ja ikähaitari menee vauvasta vaariin. Voi ihan hyvin puhua haavoittuvimmista ihmisryhmistä. Lukemisen vaikeuksia on monia erilaisia: näkövamma, oppimisen vaikeus, motoriset vaikeudet, ADHD, lukivaikeus... Listaa ei saa tyhjentävästi tehtyä.
Miten nämä henkilöt tulevat löytämään Celian palvelut Kansallisarkiston alta?
Celialla ei tule olemaan erityistä asemaa Kansallisarkiston sisällä. Hallinto, tietotekniikka ja ennen kaikkea budjetit yhdistetään. Pyrkimys on käsittääkseni ollut, että organisaatio rakennetaan alhaalta ylös uudestaan ja eri tehtävät sijoitetaan "luonnollisesti". Miten siis huolehditaan, että Celian palvelut saavat ansaitsemansa rahoituksen?
Celialta myös poistetaan johtokunta, jonka jäsenet ovat olleet eri sidosryhmistä. Vaikka johtokunta onkin ollut ehkä ennen kaikkea muodollinen, niin oon pitänyt sitä tärkeänä linkkinä vammaisalan, lukemisen ja Celian toiminnan välillä.
Sitten on tietenkin omaan työhön ja työnkuvaan liittyvät asiat, jotka ovat ihan hämärän peitossa tällä hetkellä, mutta haluisin kuitenkin ajatella miettiväni enemmän asiakkaiden parasta kuin omaani näillä pohdinnoilla.
