:fse: Here's the really long story about FSE and the FBI and Torswats: blog.freespeechextremist.com/b… . It has a lot of weird information.

:terry: Also a response to some speculation by GotoSocial about FediList: blog.freespeechextremist.com/b… . This is probably of less interest in general: it is mostly addressing questions the people there had about it.

There, that's almost all of the writing I'd been meaning to do, I'm done writing for the foreseeable future.

what do you think are the political implications of Ohio Senate Bill 24 of the 136th General Assembly which was passed unanimously by both the Ohio House of Representatives and Senate.

Personally I am worried this will set a bad precedent in government promoting specific companies over others.

The State of Ceasefire Negotiations as of April 5th, 2025

Hamas, who is committed to the January 19th agreement, has been actively engaged with mediators as of last week. After Hamas accepted an Egyptian-Qatari proposal a week ago on March 29th 2025, “israel” responded with an unacceptable counterproposal that Hamas rejected. Less than 24 hours ago, Egypt proposed a new offer to bridge the differences between the original and the counterproposal.

After the agreement’s collapse, IOF military operations significantly expanded, with new ground operations in at least 4 areas of the Gaza Strip (Shuja’iyya, Khirbet Al-Adas, Rafah, east of “Netzarim”), coinciding with intense bombing campaigns.

The Egyptian-Qatari proposal that Hamas accepted stipulated a 50-day ceasefire, the release of 5 living “israeli” captives (1 every 10 days), release of 250 Palestinian prisoners with life sentences, and release of 2,000 Gazan detainees. It also stipulated the withdrawal of the IOF from areas occupied since March 19th, opening of crossings, significant influx of aid, freedom of movement, and that negotiations for a permanent ceasefire would take place—and conclude—during the 50-day truce period.

Hamas awaited the zionist response, but “israel” came back with a new proposal (in coordination with the US) requiring the release of 11 living captives (including one zionist-American soldier “for free”), release of 16 captive bodies, and a 40-day ceasefire (the “Witkoff Proposal”). This would be in exchange for 120 Palestinian prisoners with life sentences, 160 bodies of martyrs, and 1,111 Gazan detainees. However, the deal also imposed the disarmament of Hamas and the non-withdrawal of the IOF from Gaza—completely unacceptable conditions—in addition to the exile of Hamas leadership from Gaza. Further, the counterproposal stipulated that negotiations for a permanent ceasefire would begin after the end of the ceasefire period (and would depend on the “disarmament of Hamas” and presence of IOF in Gaza), in contrast to Hamas’ request that the negotiations conclude before the end of it.

Hamas did not respond to the offer, which imposed conditions it previously announced were unacceptable.

With the escalation of the bombing, Abu Obeida released a statement yesterday that half of the living zionist captives are in areas that the IOF has ordered to be evacuated. Al-Qassam stated that they will not transfer these captives from these areas, placing them at increased risk and putting the responsibility for their lives in Netanyahu’s hands. Out of 59 captives still in Gaza, about 24 are believed to still be alive, from originally 251 captives.

In an unexpected development, Netanyahu announced that he will meet with Donald Trump on Monday, after Washington’s invitation. Netanyahu announced that they will discuss tariffs, as well as the Iranian and Turkish threats to the zionist entity. The meeting is taking place amidst increasing pressure on Netanyahu, including “Qatargate” and growing internal protests.

French President Emmanuel Macron also announced that he will arrive in Cairo at the invitation of Egyptian President El-Sisi for a tripartite meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah about the Gaza Strip.

Phase 1 of the violated three-phase ceasefire agreement began at 8:30 AM on January 19th and ended on March 1st. Negotiations for Phase 2—which guaranteed a permanent ceasefire, complete IOF withdrawal from the Gaza Strip, and prisoner exchange—were supposed to take place during Phase 1, so that Phase 2 could be implemented after March 1. These talks collapsed due to “israeli” violations, intransigence, and non-adherence to previously agreed terms. The IOF also established the new “Morag” Corridor to split Rafah from Khan Younis and reasserted control of “Netzarim.”

In the meantime, Hamas also submitted the list of names of the 10-15 members of the Community Support Committee for the administration of the Gaza Strip last week.

As of April 5th 2025, there are no signs of a breakthrough, but relentless bombing of the Gaza Strip continues.

Shell Accounts

Shell Accounts
A shell is a command line interface for an operating system. With most shell providers, a command line interface on one flavor of Linux or Unix is all you get. Eskimo North provides access to eight different popular Linux distributions and SunOS Unix. Eskimo North also full remote desktop capabilities using X2Go with sound, and also NX, VNC, and RPD without sound.

Account Types
We offer four different levels of shell accounts: Economy, Standard, Power, and Enterprise. Background tasks such as IRC bots, Game Servers, and the like are permitted on all account types except student. IRC servers are not permitted because of their tendency to draw denial of service attacks. Standard, Power, Enterprise, and Super-Max shells include a MySQL database allowing you to run a variety of LAMP stack based applications on your website and to use non-web based applications that require a database.

Web Hosting
Web hosting under our domain is provided with all shell accounts. You can host your own domains with virtual domains or web hosting packages.

Remote Desktop
Remote desktop capability is like having a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers plugged right into our servers. Because our servers can be accessed anywhere in the world, this allows you to have a work environment you can access from anywhere in the world without risking losing your files to a laptop, tablet, or phone thief. We offer remote desktop capabilities on all of our shell servers except for the SunOS server. We support x2go, nx, vnc, and rdp protocols. X2go is the best choice as it provides extremely efficient compression and X round trip removal as well as sound.

Applications
Applications include Office Suites such as Libre Office and Caligra (which can read and write Microsoft Office file formats), Web and Program Development tools such as Bluefish Editor as well as many other editors, compilers, interpreters, scripting languages, debuggers, profilers, and online documentation.

E-mail
Our e-mail system offers unprecedented flexibility. You can access your mail via shell mail readers including graphical mailers like Thunderbird, or via Web mail, or via pop-3 and imap mail protocols, complete with TLS encryption. Our mail system includes Bayesian filtering with Spam Assassin which can be individually configured for your needs. Procmail allows you to sort and process mail automatically. Smartlist allows you to maintain mailing lists.

Security
Access to all of our servers is available via strong encryption. The shell servers all support ssh access. All of the remote desktop protocols tunnel via ssh. We maintain all of our servers up to date keep with the latest patches. Backups are made weekly.

Eskimo North has been providing Unix timeshare services since 1985. We have been providing Linux timeshare, shell access, web hosting, e-mail, and Internet services since 1992. Please take a look at our services as they support our free Federated services including Friendica, Hubzilla, Mastodon, Nextcloud, and Yacy Search.

friendica (DFRN) - Link to source
Federated Services

Federated Services are services which many instances form a network to provide a greater whole than the sum of their parts, each participant in the Fediverse is an “instance”. A message or other item made available on one instance is visible and available on other instances.

We make these services available to all people who do not abuse it in order to promote the values of Free Speech, and those of the United States Constitution First Amendment. A free republic is not possible without free speech and commercial mainstream media do not provide it. We also get some advertisement benefit from hosting these, it is our hope that people who see how fast and responsible our services are will decide to do hosting or use other paid services here.

There are numerous federated services available, we offer Macrobloging platform Friendica, Hubzilla; Microbloging services Mastodon, Misskey, a federated search engine, Yacy, and a federated cloud service, Nextcloud.

Macrobloging services are message systems that allow long form posts similar in format to Facebook. These allow for works of fiction, poetry, technical papers, news items, short stories, and more. These formats are most useful for discussion of social issues.

Microbloging services allow only short form posts similar in format to Twitter. While you can link to larger articles elsewhere, you have a relatively short character limit and so can not post them directly.

Censorship, is handled much different on the fediverse than on mainstream media like Twitter or Facebook. On the fediverse, each individual instance is responsible for content available on that instance, but does not censor the rest of the network. Thus if you find the rules of one instance too constraining you can move to another.

Federated search engines are analogous to federated message systems in that each instance chooses what portion of the internet it wants to crawl. When you enter a search term, the local instance queries all of the federated instances, collates and sorts the results and presents them to you. As with messages, each instance can have it’s own censorship policies but no one instance can censor the entire network.

Given the wild-west nature of the fediverse, it is probably not suitable for children under 14, and you’re guaranteed to find some material that will offend virtually everyone. With federated search engines, material that is inappropriate will usually be flagged sensitive or nsfw (not safe for work) so as long as you don’t expand material marked as such, you can avoid this soft of material. There are occasionally people who violate these rules, we do our best to remove such individuals none the less some will get through.

We offer the following federated services:

Friendica.Eskimo.Com
Friendica is a decentralized long format macrobloging message network. It is similar in format to facebook however there is no centralized censorship. Also, it is able to federate with all other federated message systems which use ActivityPub protocol and also we have extensions that allow it to speak to several other networks via other protocols.

Hubzilla.Eskimo.Com
Hubzilla is similar in message format to Friendica in that it allows long posts. However, it specializes in it’s ability to provide connectivity to multiple protocols and so we include it in our mix of federated services primarily for the better connectivity it offers. Hubzilla provides a great deal of interoperability between many networks though ActivityPub is still it’s primary protocol. Hubzilla gives you a greater degree of control over privacy than some of the other networks. You can create private channels that are served between hubzilla instances and other compatible instances.

Mastodon.Eskimo.Com
Mastodon is first and foremost an alternative to Twitter. While Twitter has Tweets, Mastodon has Toots. The format is very similar. Mastodon toots have a limit of 500 characters. Similar to the short limit of Twitter. This is why this platform is referred to as a Microbloging format. Mastodon interacts with other ActivityPub instances however when a long form blog post from another instance arrives, you are only shown a short portion with a link to follow to see the full post on the originating site.

NextCloud.Eskimo.Com
If you are a customer of Eskimo North, your login credentials will work without a domain extension to access Nextcloud. If you are not a customer you can apply for a Nextcloud account using your choice of login and password, in this case the login should include your originating network. Some features require an Eskimo North shell account to take full advantage of.

Pixelfed.Eskimo.Com
Pixelfed is a federated pixel gallery. A place where you can share your photos to the widest audience possible, and you can view what others have shared. This instance is new as of April 6th 2025, so has not yet discovered or been discovered by many others.

Yacy.Eskimo.Com
Yacy is a federated search engine. There are several thousand instances on the Internet. Each instances crawls whatever portion of the web the administrator requested. It is also possible for the administrator of a site with relatively few resources to request a larger site to do crawls on their behalf. Unfortunately, it does not provide a method for an end user to initiate a crawl, but if you send e-mail to support@eskimo.com and request a crawl, we will initiate a crawl on your behalf.

If you enjoy these services, please consider supporting us by taking advantage of our paid services: https://www.eskimo.com/

🇨🇦🇨🇳 Chinese woman tells the truth about western media and how so many have been brainwashed.

It seems those that have lived in a communist country in Eastern Europe or the Far East, are generally distrustful of their own media and know it is state controlled. They can see through the bullshit quicker and more easily.

In the West, on the other hand, many blindly trust their “state media”. Canada is one of the worst places for this. The Canadian boomers in particular are completely lost.

"The hinge on the conflict now is the US Supreme Court (SCOTUS), which is led by Chief Justice John Roberts. A whole lot of troubling info about CJ Roberts has blown up in recent days, much of it not exactly new, but buried and ignored by the likes of The New York Times, and its kindred blob mouthpieces. You’ve read in this blog recently how CJ Roberts’s chief factotum at SCOTUS, Sheldon Snook, is married to Mary McCord, involved officially in every lawfare prank against Mr. Trump since RussiaGate, when she was U.S. Assistant Attorney-General for National Security — and who then went on as counsel for Jerrold Nadler’s House Committee Trump Impeachment No. 1, and the J-6 House Committee, both actions of stupendous bad faith."

When it's just cat hair it doesn't bother me, but seeing my own human hair all over everything constantly irritates me. I may give up and cut it short for that reason.

let it terrify you that fascists only emulate language. to them it is a bludgeon rather than a conduit, and all their semblance of meaning amounts to a bright distraction. what they say has no connection to what they do, and what they *believe* is incoherent, because coherency is not a value of their beliefs. they lust for oblivion, for cruelty, for domination, without any reason but the lust itself. they will be persuaded by material change, not the words they can no longer hear.

Tariffs only cause fewer American goods to flow into foreign markets, and less American money to be used by foreigners, which means fewer American goods to be bought and values to be offered in return. The total amount of value and wealth for Americans will decrease, as will the level of freedom and civilization. Tariffs destroy the economy and create bondage for unproductive morons, and if your neighbor is a degenerate, you don't become an intellectual by following his example.
in reply to IvanAristotelian

He is destined in the same way as a Führer or chieftain of a people is destined: as mass insanity and intellectual dependence, collectivism, medieval ideas, and the already almost total degeneration of human rights, freedom, and all American ideals. Your rhetoric, your explanation, his argumentation is no longer essentially different from Hitler's or Stalin's.
in reply to Nanook

Who do you mean by "we"? Only concrete people can have property, want values, or make profits. If you don't have tariffs, then you're just buying goods overseas with a premium for the cost of transportation (compared to domestically). If you have tariffs, then you, the particular buyer, are forced to pay for the whim of the government, and the possible choice of values becomes narrower. Robbery or arbitrary imposition is not a means of production or profit.

The issue you run into with any economic theory other than capitalism is that there is no automatic distribution of resources according to demand and always whoever is in power ends up globing all the resources to themselves because unfortunately that tends to be human nature. I mean I'd love to see it work like it does in Star Trek Next Generation, but that's fiction, real world it's more like the Klingons, so that's problem with socialism. Capitalism works as long as you don't have any one entity monopolizing the market, but the Sherman Anti-trust act hasn't been enforced since a decade after its' creation. So in reality nothing works as it exists now. I really would like to see a world like Star Trek where we are energy and resource rich without destroying our habitat, but the big thing that gets in the way of that is not the inability to achieve that kind of environmentally friendly abundance, although it sure and hell can not happen with windmills and solar panels, it could perhaps with hydrogen fusion and asteroid mining, but the real issue isn't the physics of getting there, it's the genetics. Humans evolved in mostly times of scarcity, therefore female genetics favor mates that can provide a lot of resources, and male genetics favor acquiring as much resources as possible to acquire desirable mates even if it's far more than they, their mates, or their offspring could need in one hundred lifetimes. Maybe that's what drives people to cut off their sex bits and try to pretend they're the other sex, but reproduction doesn't happen that way so that's a genetic dead end, unless the turd baby in Ren and Stimpy's pregnant episode counts is reproduction. Anyway, you can see why I don't feel the value in investing a lot of energy into the argument.

After much deliberation I finally bought a Ninja SP151 combo toaster oven/air fryer, albeit discounted as "used" (it was brand new, just not in the original box). It arrived yesterday. I have used it 4 times in the last 24 hours and I really like it so far. Much quieter than my previous air fryer, and much more versatile as it replaces my toaster oven too. It's very fast. Fresh breadsticks/rolls in about 6 minutes. Have also used it to re-crisp fried Chinese takeout, with good results. It does indeed flip out of the way easily, and doesn't look too bad on the counter.
