North Korea only became like this after the US blew up their entire country, killed about a fifth of their people, and then sat next to their borders for seventy years with guns pointed at them (and also sanctioning the hell out of them after the end of the USSR). Iran wanting to have nukes is due to the understanding that Israel has them, and getting their nuclear facilities bombed has not only not eliminated their nuclear weapons program, but fully justified it.

@Jagahati I'm with @OneEyeKing on this. I've said it before and I'll say it again: I'm not going to vote Red or Blue any more. Voting for either one just perpetuates the illusion that they are different parties. Both want to control our lives, they just tell different lies about why.
But I will vote for someone else, just to make the point. They need a signal that they don't get to claim my support because I was silent.
@chromeratt @Jagahati I believe that unrealized future candidates will be looking at the voting numbers to decide if they can run. By being politically active, but voting principles, I think we could help encourage candidates that align closer to our principles, or at least move the overton window.

Had Roberts more commitment to rule of law and less regard for Republican Fascism, he might have been able to peel off Gorsuch, Kavanaugh, Barrett occasionally and get them to vote with Sotomayor and Jackson and sometimes Kagan. But it is clear that he has no interest in this role and the other far right justices definitely don’t. 4/
I know that brave lower court judges will continue to write well-reasoned important memoranda in support of their correct and significant decisions. I will continue to commend their efforts and sometimes explain them. But for all their skill and integrity, they won’t be able to prevent the worst effect of the Supreme Court’s perfidy: plaintiffs’ lawyers will stop bringing cases they clearly will lose on appeal. 5/
The lawyers who represent the plaintiffs in the cases against the Trump regime do not have the funds or the staff to litigate every instance of the regime’s lawlessness. They also do not want to litigate cases that will only serve to give the Supreme Court the chance to hand down a lawless diktat as though it should be treated as precedent. 6/
So most plaintiffs’ lawyers will become ever more selective and careful in who they represent and the issues they put before the courts. This is natural and understandable. But it is also frightening. The actions of the U.S. Supreme Court play a direct role in sharply increasing the prospect of a hot civil war in the United States. 7/

As you know SCOTUS only takes up 2% of merits cases in any given year, because they cannot afford to take more. That means they don't rule on most questions at all
For every case I've seen get headlines from the Shadow docket, I've found another where they just denied review even though the administration lost
and as you know this has always been the power of the appellate circuits -- if not the reason for the US' continued existence, IMO. They are the final word and may split
And that means they will decide how even shitty policies of the administration occur in practice, due to most in their jurisdiction following the law regardless

These guys have a pretty good take on recent history and military operations and politics. A lot of things come to proxy wars between US and Russia/China, and while I can understand US animosity towards China, although even a lot of that I think initially was based upon fear, we feared communism would take over all of Asia even though we knew historically it always fails, and even today China has adopted a strong bit of capitalism in their economic system. So we had the proxy war in Viet Nam and Laos over this fear. I do not understand why we do not get along with Russia, after all our people are both largely Caucasian, our languages have most of the same vowels and consonants and are not that dissimilar, and in modern times our culture isn't even huge different. We both have major oil interests, and so there is competition there, but there could be cooperation and I think it would benefit both countries and the world at large. Given that we, Russia and the USA, were allies during WWII, I am not clear on how we became enemies.
