I want to know where the evidence of this pedo shit was. I never saw a report about it. I helped cull one account that was posting 3Dcg against our rules, but besides that everyone has kept SH in the dark as they defederated without any legitimate reason beyond the “reason” that the name of the instance put it instantly on blocklists that no one double checks.

That post may address some of the philosophy behind decisions, but I’ll try to get a better grasp on the fix you mentioned here that was made at that time to allow federation. If I recall, we did eventually stop federating, but if it was after assisting them , then maybe too much damage was done. I personally tried to keep things clean on Shota House proper, but not on the wider federating processes. So it was like i was metaphorically trying to ensure no fires broke out indoors, while the neighbor’s garden was aflame outside.

I at the time had never seen any illegal content come from Youjo and I was friendly with a few of their users. They had me believe that their domain was suspended for completely illegitimate reasons. I assumed that they did what they did because they wanted to keep the domain, whether it be for money reasons or some other thing. So, I added their domain so that I could communicate with those I was publicly communicating with. During this time I also blocked all media coming from the instance (the 'fix' bork them and I just wanted text communications).
At the time I had a much looser stance on things and was far more tolerant of pedophiles/"MAP"s. It was a very ignorant and ill-advised take simply due to not being exposed to the true nature of what they actually do and host.
I now defederate from Pedo/"MAP" instances on sight. I do not tolerate or condone anything that they do. We even block a lot of them on a hosts level. (this is manual so it's updated periodically)
My previous actions were foolish and out of ignorance and stupidity. But, I like to think I have learned from those mistakes and do better in the future.

You get a few positive interactions with a person, you follow them. Of all the points brought up, this is by far the most far reaching one in my opinion.

I at the time had never seen any illegal content come from Youjo and I was friendly with a few of their users. They had me believe that their domain was suspended for completely illegitimate reasons. I assumed that they did what they did because they wanted to keep the domain, whether it be for money reasons or some other thing. So, I added their domain so that I could communicate with those I was publicly communicating with. During this time I also blocked all media coming from the instance (the 'fix' bork them and I just wanted text communications).
At the time I had a much looser stance on things and was far more tolerant of pedophiles/"MAP"s. It was a very ignorant and ill-advised take simply due to not being exposed to the true nature of what they actually do and host.
I now defederate from Pedo/"MAP" instances on sight. I do not tolerate or condone anything that they do. We even block a lot of them on a hosts level. (this is manual so it's updated periodically)
My previous actions were foolish and out of ignorance and stupidity. But, I like to think I have learned from those mistakes and do better in the future.

in reply to • • •@RehnyNytes256@shota.house You are right, I'm not going to make up excuses, those were not on the blocklist. However, I will be adding these instances and more to my blocklist. (Additions retrieved from burggit.moe as they seem to keep a significantly more active blocklist.)
For transparency, this is my blocklist prior to this message:

in reply to menherahair • • •@RehnyNytes256@shota.house I hope we continue to make decisions that show people that we are simply an instance who likes anime and fiction. We are invite only and are fairly strict about who we let in and even stricter about who we let stay.
But I'd like to leave it at that. Frankly, I don't feel compelled to sit around all day defending myself or my instance, desperately trying to show people that "actually I am worthy!" Our instance and it's users have a fairly good track record of being cozy, respectful, generally non-antagonistic. And we will continue to do so.

mint's instance straight up has a bot that doxes IPs searching for pedo keywords, some other admins monitor these in private
