His name was Monster because he was a very large grey tabby, a real gentle giant of a cat. He died from his bone marrow's inability to make blood because of it several months later. He is one of seven cats I've had in my life but by far the most loving animal I ever had. In spite of the really short time I had him, his death really hurt. I fully understand that grief.

Generally I agree with the article that the shutdown of lemm.ee isn't a big deal. It sucks for sure, but the Fediverse survives.
Personally I don't care about account migration. Export/import works fine, but I get that it's a little clunky for some.
Community migration is something that I think is more important and as I understand PieFed handles this. Hopefully Lemmy will someday and even better between Lemmy & PieFed.
It doesnt mean anything but its good to get these kind of practices while Lemmy is still small. It seems the.migration process has come along way since 2 years ago.

I migrated an account loooong ago and the only thing that didn't copy/transfer by themselves was my posts. Dunno how much better it has gotten since then but what "makes" the account is so far quite easily exportable and importable.

It could've been the case that I would've had one less instance to choose from, but in the aftermath of the announcement, I found two new instances I wanted to try, so I'm actually one ahead in the long run.

No, but Apple has a record of every device it's installed on. Wouldn't take much for the DOJ to give Apple an Administrative Subpoena for a list of everyone that has it installed, along with their IP addresses.
From there they can correlate the activity with people in and around ICE operations and arrest anybody with the app installed on "trumped" up charges like interfering with a police operation or some other bullshit.

Also, wouldn't a simple IP address of a user at a given time be inadequate to link users to activity? Furthermore, if it calls in to a server in US jurisdiction it would simply be easier to seize access and threaten Amazon et al. to take it down or allow access.
