Año’s Recycled Lies Meant to Obscure Real Roots of Armed Conflict


Kabataang Makabayan (KM) strongly condemns the recent statements made by National Security Adviser Eduardo Año and the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-Elcac), which once again weaponize so-called “former rebels” to prop up the discredited narrative of a so-called “spent revolutionary force.” What Año parades as “raw, unfiltered testimonies” are, in truth, manufactured scripts extracted through coercion, bribery, and threats, designed to mislead the public and justify the militarist crackdown on democratic dissent in the Philippines.

The formation of organizations composed of alleged “former rebels,” organized under the close direction of the military and intelligence agencies, is a state-sponsored ploy aimed at legitimizing repressive policies, red-tagging, and the silencing of legitimate criticism against the Marcos Jr. regime’s corruption, foreign subservience, and anti-people programs.

Año’s recycled lies and fear-mongering narratives do more than insult the intelligence of the Filipino people—they actively obscure the real, deeply rooted causes of the armed conflict in the Philippines. Landlessness, joblessness, widespread poverty, fascist state violence, and a foreign-dominated economic system that denies the Filipino people sovereignty and justice are still the norm today.

Año’s attempt to weaponize “former rebels” in the information war is a desperate move in the face of growing international exposure and condemnation of human rights violations under their “counterinsurgency” programs as well as the mounting call to abolish the NTF-Elcac. It also exposes the regime’s failure to crush the revolutionary movement, which continues to persevere and grow.

It is not the revolutionary movement but the ruling classes and their security apparatuses who exploit the urban poor, workers, farmers, and indigenous peoples—through demolition, union-busting, land grabbing, environmental plunder, and killings of rights defenders. Far from being deceived, the Filipino masses experience firsthand the crushing poverty, joblessness and lack of access to basic services that further foment their resolve to join the armed struggle in the countryside. The people’s democratic revolution is a rational, collective response to a system that offers no meaningful future to the youth, urban poor, workers, and peasants.

Kabataang Makabayan reiterates its commitment to a just and lasting peace—one that addresses the fundamental issues of land reform, national industrialization, and democratic rights. We call on all Filipino youth, students, migrants, and professionals, to reject the fascist propaganda of the AFP and NTF-Elcac, and instead join the struggle for genuine change and national and social liberation.

I can only speak to 1984 the book and my decades as an American citizen by birth.

The idea of reading 1984 in school was to teach us the signs of dystopia so we'd steer around them.

However, at the time wealthy Americans had already been waging continuous war on the middle class for decades while politicians corrupted the US Federal Government in order to provide a direct path for the wealthy to purchase taxpayer funded corporate welfare at an incredible value of several pennies for each US taxpayer dollar dispersed.

Hey Installer Devs - an installer feature -- copy another system's install?

Please let me know if there is already an accepted way to do this.

Early in the install process, you'd have a field to type a hostname of a local machine that you'd like to install like. The installer would download an "Install facts" file and install the new machine like the model machine.

The "install facts" file is created at install time. it contains things like timezone, language, percentage of disk space for each partition (to handle disk space of differing sizes) Optional files selected, username/password for root and for first user - anything needed to make the install a two click operation.

Note that this would be a full new install - not a clone of a machine that has been in use for a while.

For Debian there's Preseed, for Arch there's archinstall, for a Fedora/RHEL there's Kickstart, for Alpine there's setup scripts, for distros with fully manual installs, you could just write a script?

Automating your install is something any sysadmin and mainly any distro developer will quickly reach towards, so it is something almost certain to exist.

Though, if I understand you, you'd want that to be "sourced" from an existing system, yes? I can see the use of that...

My son just sent wife and me a text. He went to the business office at his college and asked them to give him the total amount that has been paid on his account over the whole four years. He said that they had never been asked to do that before and it took them 30 minutes to figure out how to do it. He sent us the number, it was rather huge. Then he said "This was all you people. Thank you very much. I'm very grateful."

@N.Morgan Good data is always good but this data is fake, at least with respect to polio, we know there have been quite a few polio deaths in Africa, so the 1-in-1trillion is surely made up bullshit. I'm not a big advocate of vaccines in general, I do think more often than not their risk outweighs their benefits, but the polio numbers just do not remotely jive with reality and the fact that they don't takes away from credibility for the remaining data.

It goes like this:
The Sabin vax is live virus with a couple mutations that render it weak. Give vax to child in a naive population. It replicates, the child develops immunity, but shits out live virus particles.
Billions of them. Evolution runs a million times faster in viruses - a few of the particles have mutations which reverse the Sabin weakness.
Other people get infected. Most of them quietly develop immunity, but polio is wildly contagious.
The ones with the un-weak mutation propagate better and you have an outbreak...
