Researchers from the University of Cambridge and University College London developed a new type of responsive synthetic skin for robots.

The skin is made from a single hydrogel that can detect touch, pressure, heat, and cold.

The hydrogel-based hand was tested on a robot, allowing it to more accurately "feel" the world around it.

Criticism of Cory Doctorow's Keynote

Sensitive content

My husband is mad at me because I’ve been answering stupid protest people online. He says it’s a waste of time and no one wants your 2¢. I didn’t want a shadow president and dementia patient either. I told them it’s too bad nothing they did today changes anything and they can vote in 3 1/2 years. Maybe a bit childish but I’m so tired of stupid people not knowing what they are doing.

It was never going to be the #West that finally brought #Israel to justice. The West supports #SettlerColonialism everywhere. I hope the strikes from #Iran send a message to every #settler #colony in the #world, and everyone in #solidarity with oppressed people.

The #colonizers are being defeated in #Palestine. They will be defeated in #Aotearoa, #AbyaYala, #TurtleIsland, and everywhere else, too. The world is waking up fast from colonial ideological #indoctrination.

This may be the most important thing you'll read today.

Evanescence - Use My Voice (Official Music Video)

"Use My Voice" by Evanescence is a powerful anthem that calls for unity and empowerment. Featured on their album "The Bitter Truth," this track showcases Amy Lee's emotive vocals and the band's signature sound, blending rock with impactful lyrics. The official music video enhances the song's message, visually representing themes of strength and advocacy. Released in 2021, it highlights the band's commitment to inspiring change through their music.

Lyrics:
Cover my ears and close my eyes
Just long enough to stop the noise
Go and take everything and throw it away
But I will use my voice

Drown every truth in an ocean of lies
Label me bitch because I dare to draw my own line
Burn every bridge and build a wall in my way
But I will use my voice

Whether you like it or not, you're gonna take what I got
If we can't talk about it, we'll just keep drowning in it
Give me credit or not
I give a lot, give a lot
But don't you speak for me
No, don't you speak for me

Nevermind me, I'm a waste of your time
I'm never gonna fit in the box that you need
And I can read between the lines, yeah
Gather your friends and wave your gun in my face
But I will use my voice

Whether you like it or not, you're gonna take what I got
If we can't talk about it, we'll just keep drowning in it
Give me credit or not
I give a lot, give a lot
But don't you speak for me
No, don't you speak for me

Whether you like it or not
Whether you like it or not
Whether you like it or not
Whether you like it or not
One day soon it's gonna fall back on you
No more lies, we're gonna break right through
Like it or not

If we can't talk about it, we'll just keep drowning in it
Give me credit or not
I give a lot, give a lot
But don't you speak for me

No, don't you speak for me
Whether you like it or not
Don't you speak for me!

Lyrics:
WASTED ON YOU
I don’t need drugs
I’m already six feet low
Wasted on you
Waiting for a miracle
I can’t move on
Feels like we’re frozen in time
I’m wasted on you
Just pass me the bitter truth

Love, don’t you remember
we were the ones
nothing could ever change and love
It’s easier not to believe we have broken everything
but here we are
Numb my head till I can’t think anymore
But I still feel the pain

I don’t need drugs
I’m already six feet low
Wasted on you
Waiting for a miracle
I can’t move on
Feels like we’re frozen in time
I’m wasted on you
Just pass me the bitter truth

Once this was a garden
This was our world
All of the nightmares stayed in the dark
A little too much time by yourself and you become the enemy
Just look at us now
Drowning slowly just to stay true

I don’t need drugs
I’m already six feet low
Wasted on you
Waiting for a miracle
I can’t move on
I feel like we’re frozen in time
I’m wasted on you
Just pass me the bitter truth

Will I ever be the same
Am I strong enough to change
is it in my blood
Shield my eyes to face the day
Come too far to slip away
But it’s killing me to go on without you

I don’t need drugs
Im wasted on you
Waiting for a miracle
I can’t move on
like we’re frozen in time
I’m wasted on you
Just pass me the bitter truth

Lyrics:
I don't know your heart
I don't know where to begin
But I could feel you erasing the rivers I'd drawn in
The more I stood still
The faster you were running
You don't know how it feels crawling under your skin
So far, so far away
Don't you know we could be

High or low
You never fell beneath me
And I gave up on you, but I never forgot you

I can't be your friend
Hold your hand while you bleed

There's nothing left to give you
Nothing more I need
Time to let it sleep
Oh, the damage was real
But nothing cut me so deep I could not heal

Don't you know we could be
High or low
You never fell beneath me
And I gave up on you, but I never forgot you

High or low
You never fell beneath me
And I gave up on you
But I never forgot

Evanescence - The Game Is Over (Official Music Video)

"The Game Is Over"
Had enough I’ve really
had enough
Had enough of denial
I’m not alright but I’m not gonna lie I don’t know that I ever was

all alone I’ve waited
all alone
Held it in as I played by your rules I’ve been biting my lip but I’m losing my grip
I’m coming down down down

When all the hate burns off I’m left here with the pain
Behind our vain devices are we all the same

Change me into something I believe in
Change me so I don’t have to pretend

Take a breath and try to play along but
I’m a terrible liar
I feel the world like a brick on my chest
and the party’s just begun

Throw the rope I’m wading
Through the mud
From your mouth flow a thousand truths
But you know there’s only one

When all the hate burns off I’m left here with the pain

Change me into something I believe in
Change me so I don’t have to pretend
Sweet words they mean nothing they’re not true
cause the game is over

I want it all or I want nothing at all
maybe I can change me into something I believe in
Change me so I don’t have to pretend
Your sweet words they mean nothing save your breath
The game is over

Evanescence - My Immortal (Official HD Music Video)

I'm so tired of being here
Suppressed by all my childish fears
And if you have to leave
I wish that you would just leave
'Cause your presence still lingers here
And it won't leave me alone

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

You used to captivate me by your resonating light
Now I'm bound by the life you left behind
Your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams
Your voice it chased away all the sanity in me

These wounds won't seem to heal
This pain is just too real
There's just too much that time cannot erase

When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
And I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
I've been alone all along

When you cried, I'd wipe away all of your tears
When you'd scream, I'd fight away all of your fears
I held your hand through all of these years
But you still have all of me

Me, me

Going to make a blanket set of clarifications here for people who are new followers or who are unaware that I've been on a long term crusade about this issue. When I say "missile defense is fake" I don't mean that in the literal sense. What I mean is that there's been a 40 year campaign by governments, defense contractors, and military officials to deceive the public about how effective ballistic missile defense systems are, specifically.

This campaign goes back to the introduction of the Patriot, with George H.W. Bush giving a speech at a Raytheon (not kidding) factory where he claimed the Patriot had intercepted ~98% of Iraqi Scuds in the Gulf War. This was an extension of Cold War missile defense propaganda campaigns, like Reagan's Strategic Defense Initiative (Star Wars). We now have solid evidence that the Patriot probably failed to intercept any Iraqi Scuds.

What the Patriot had actually done was intercept booster sections and bits of debris from Saddam's Scuds when they broke apart in the air (these were the famously old and unreliable "wobbly scuds"). These failures cost the coalition forces dearly when a Scud hit a US barracks in Saudi Arabia, killing 28 American soldiers and injuring over 100.

What we see now, over the skies of Israel, is similar, but on a much larger scale. One of the great advantages missile defense propagandists have is that they've been able to pass off every explosion in the sky as a supposed interception. Most people aren't aware that a modern ballistic missile attack will include decoys, countermeasures, and dummy missiles, and many interceptors are programmed to self destruct if they miss their target. As a result, what can look like a sky full of successful interceptions is really dozens of misses, or decoys doing their job.

The Saudis and Ukrainians have done their absolute best to play along. Long before the Ukrainians claimed 100% interception rates for hypersonic missiles, the Saudis were telling the world that the Patriots we forced them to buy had successfully shot down 100% of Yemeni drones and missiles in attacks during the Yemeni Civil War. Booster sections of missiles which automatically detach before impact were trotted out as proof. Again, the Patriot's stats were padded as intercepted boosters were claimed as intercepted warheads.

Interestingly, the only US "ally" not to play along was Israel. Having nothing to fear from criticizing their vassal state, they openly derided the Patriot after its poor showing in the Gulf War, directly contradicted Raytheon and HW's narrative, and only acquired them as a stopgap while they worked to replace them with domestically produced systems. They've now completed this process, but it's clear that they haven't been as successful at fielding a superior system as they expected to be. Their situation is desperate enough that they're now trying to recall the Patriots they threw in the trash by donating to Ukraine.

So when I talk about "air defense bros," I'm talking about people who bought into the narrative that ballistic missile defense systems can achieve high kill rates. The strategic picture changes massively if you drop from a 99% kill rate to a 90%, or even, God forbid, 50%, or even lower (likely where we are now). It means that you cannot guarantee that your military personnel, cargo ships, infrastructure, etc are anywhere close to safe.

Air defense systems are useful. They are extremely effective at shooting down aircraft and decent at shooting down cruise missiles. But even older ballistic missiles are a major challenge, and the newer classes of maneuvering, countermeasure dropping, even low-hypersonic missiles fielded by Russia, Iran, or China are likely all but impossible to shoot down.

Evanescence - My Heart Is Broken

"My Heart Is Broken" by Evanescence is a deeply emotional ballad that explores themes of heartache and longing. Featured on their self-titled album "Evanescence," this track showcases Amy Lee's powerful vocals and the band's signature blend of rock and orchestral elements. Released in 2011, it resonates with listeners who have experienced the pain of lost love.

Lyrics:
I will wander 'til the end of time, torn away from you

I pulled away to face the pain
I close my eyes and drift away
Over the fear
That I will never find a way to heal my soul
And I will wander 'til the end of time
Torn away from you

My heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us from sorrow's hold
Over my heart

I can't go on living this way
I can't go back the way I came
Chained to this fear
That I will never find a way to heal my soul
And I will wander 'til the end of the time
Half alive without you

My heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us

Change
Open your eyes to the light
I denied it all so long, oh so long
Say goodbye, goodbye

My heart is broken
Release me, I can't hold on
Deliver us

My heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us

My heart is broken
Sweet sleep, my dark angel
Deliver us from sorrow's hold

"The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) was “community noted” on X after apparently presenting eight-month-old footage of bombs raining down on Tel Aviv as new footage of Friday night’s attack.

This comes after Iran reportedly attacked Israel in response to the Jewish state launching a preemptive aerial campaign against Iran’s nuclear program.

Iran issued a response to Israel’s attack on Friday night.

Israel released a video on Friday, supposedly showing the missile barrage they faced, but part of the video appears to be from an October 2024 attack.

“Israel is under attack,” the text read on the footage from almost one year ago. There’s no denying that Israel is facing attacks in response to theirs, but why the need to share a fake video?

The official lyric video adds an engaging visual element, enhancing the song's impactful message. Released in 2021, it showcases the band's continued evolution and relevance in the rock genre.

Lyrics:
Better Without You Lyrics:
Stand in the front but shut up till I tell you to go
Don’t get caught up in pretend cause you’re not in control
Cause this is my world, little girl you’d be lost on your own
Just hating and waiting and saving up

I’ll do you a favor and save you if you sign on the line
Don’t worry your pretty little head about the future its all fine
Whether you’re wrong or you’re right
doesn’t matter you’re not up to the fight
Keeping my head down cause they don’t know what I know now

As empires fall to pieces
Our ashes twisting in the air
It makes me smile to know that
I’m better without you

Now look around and remember your friends if you can
Feeding the flames till there’s no one to blame its on your hands
Lost in your lies pay the price with our lives you’ve gone mad
and there’s no way out cause we all know you’re hollow

As empires fall to pieces
Our ashes twisting in the air
It makes me smile to know that
I’m better without you

Not enough, not enough, not enough to throw it all away we’d still be falling, we’re fallen
Turn it up, turn it up, never gonna shut me up again your time is over
It’s over now

As empires fall to pieces
Our ashes twisting in the air
It makes me smile to know that
I’m better without you

Featured on their album "The Bitter Truth," this song captures themes of defiance and empowerment. The official music video adds a dynamic visual experience, enhancing the song's fierce attitude. Released in 2021, it highlights Evanescence's continued relevance in the rock scene.

Lyrics:
I'm the widow
On the tip tippy-toppy of the highest high of low
And I'm the shadow
Of the first little flower on the brightest patch of snow

Happiness can be hard to find
I'm so slapped silly happy
Everybody wants to take mine

Yeah, right
That sounds nice
Everything we ever wanted and more
Someday we'll get paid
More than it was worth to sell our souls
Yeah, right

Yeah, I'm a rock star
I'm the queen resurrected, just as messed up as before
Twist the knife hard
Just to make it easier to tell you I don't need you anymore

Life's a game 'til you lose, then what?
I'm reaching a new level
Of not giving a fuck

Yeah, right
That sounds nice
Everything we ever wanted and more
Someday we'll get paid
More than it was worth to sell our souls
Tell me, how is the real world treating you?
Is that my fault too?
My one mistake was giving more and more and more

More and more and more

Yeah, right
Baby, that sounds nice (that sounds nice)

Tumblr is actively protecting fake TERF accounts

My account, “the angry man” was abruptly terminated. I have done nothing that violates tumblrs terms of service.

The only pattern I see is that I have been routinely calling out TERFs, who have falsely been claiming to be detransitioners, have graduate degrees etc.

It appears that tumblr is actively hostile to people calling out transphobes. The site has decided to take a stand, and that stand is with Russian trolls.

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Get Over You

"Get Over You" by Sophie Ellis-Bextor is an infectious dance-pop track that showcases her distinctive voice and catchy melodies. This song, from her debut album "Read My Lips," combines upbeat rhythms with relatable lyrics about moving on from heartbreak. Released in 2001, it remains a staple in the early 2000s pop scene.

Lyrics:
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah

Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah

You think you've got your way
But baby there's a catch
Don't need your foul play
Now you have met your match

You think you're in control
But that won't last that long
You thought you wore the crown
Honey, you were wrong

You had me taken in
But now I've found you out
And I won't go through that again

You've always had to win
You'll have to go without
You don't know where to stop

Go, go, go, go, go
I'll get over you
You drive me crazy, up the wall
Think you're Mr Know-it-all

Go, go, go, go, go
I'll get over you
You drive me crazy, up the wall
Goodbye Mr Know-it-all

Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah

I let you have your say
You never compromised
Complaining everyday
About everything in sight

I've let you stay a while
Now I am getting bored
No substance in your style
And you're not the man you thought
That you were

You had me taken in
But now I've found you out
And I won't go through that again

You've always had to win
You'll have to go without
You don't know where to stop
Oh get over you

Go, go, go, go, go
I'll get over you
You drive me crazy, up the wall
Think you're Mr Know-it-all

Go, go, go, go, go
I'll get over you
You drive me crazy, up the wall
Goodbye Mr Know-it-all

Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah

You think you've got your way
But baby there's a catch
Don't need your foul play
Now you have met your match

Go, go, go, go, go
I'll get over you
You drive me crazy, up the wall
Think you're Mr Know-it-all

Go, go, go, go, go
I'll get over you
You drive me crazy, up the wall
Goodbye Mr Know-it-all (I'll get over you)

Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah (I'll get over you)
Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah (I'll get over you)

Eye-eye-eye-ah
Eye-eye-eye-ah (I'll get over you)
Eye-eye-eye-ah
