Internal Israeli intelligence data reveals that at least 83% of Palestinians killed in the Gaza offensive were civilians, contradicting official Israeli claims of a 1:1 or 2:1 civilian-to-militant ratio. The classified database, managed by the Military Intelligence Directorate (Aman), lists 47,653 Palestinians deemed militants, including 34,973 Hamas members and 12,702 Islamic Jihad members. By May, around 8,900 operatives were reported killed, mostly junior, with 100–300 senior Hamas operatives among them.

Modern views of how the brain works.
This article is about human consciousness and anesthesia. But the story I want to impress upon people is some background to the issue. There is a new way to think about how the brain does its job.

Some excerpts from the article:

"For much of the 20th century, neuroscientists believed that neurons performed the heavy lifting of producing conscious experience through a process called spiking, which involves transmitting a signal via an electrical impulse known as an action potential.

Spikes of neurons were seen as ones and zeros, and these were considered the carriers of information.

Scientists have realized that neuron firing isn’t solely responsible for consciousness. In fact, researchers have discovered that neurons spend about 80% of their time not spiking. During these periods, they still communicate with other brain cells through subtle electrical influences. Those influences — waves — travel around the brain 5,000 times faster than the slower signaling of synaptic spikes, and they’re being sent out all the time.

Astrocytes — star-shaped glial cells that comprise up to 40% of all cells in the brain — do more than just support neurons structurally, remove waste products, and provide nutrients. Like neurons, they also oscillate and spread electrical influences. In May, a team led by Thomas Papouin, an assistant professor of neuroscience at Washington University in St. Louis, found that a** brain chemical associated with alertness, attention, and learning alters brain connectivity and function by acting on astrocytes, not neurons**.

But Miller is nurturing another hypothesis that fits with the idea that brain waves, not neurons, drive consciousness: The mind actually functions more like an analog computer. These machines solve problems by representing quantities as models — think voltages or mechanical positions — rather than the ones and zeros used in digital computers.

Miller points to the human brain’s meager use of power — just 20 watts — as evidence that its computational approach must be vastly more efficient than today’s energy-hungry digital supercomputers.

In the analog brain, waves could easily serve as those models, Miller says. Computation could emerge from how waves interact, adding together or canceling out depending on their phases. And because these waves ripple across the brain’s layered, three-dimensional structure, they could support enormously complex computations."

Interesting to read from the Swiss scientist Philipp Markolin that there were two different SARS-CoV-2 strings that caused the spread of Covid at the Wuhan market.

It is more evidence that COVID-19 originated from an animal-to-human transfer and not from a lab accident. If COVID-19 had come from a lab, there would have been only one string.

Alors que le Royaume-Uni renationalise son réseau ferroviaire après l'échec cuisant de sa privatisation dans les années 1990, la France, sous l'impulsion de l'Union européenne, ouvre ses trains de passagers à la concurrence. Cette libéralisation initiée en 2020 soulève des questions cruciales sur la gestion et le financement des infrastructures. Avec des opérateurs privés réticents à investir, le modèle économique fragile de la SNCF basé sur un équilibre entre lignes rentables et non rentables se trouve menacé. Le risque est de laisser les infrastructures et les lignes déficitaires à la charge du contribuable, pendant que les lignes bénéficiaires viennent remplir le portefeuille du secteur privé sans que le contribuable consommateur y gagne.

Pour SNCF Réseau, l’arrivée de nouveaux clients sur ses lignes est donc à priori une opportunité. Sauf que là encore, dans la réalité, les concurrents de la SNCF Voyageurs ne contribuent pas beaucoup à la modernisation du réseau. Ainsi, pour amadouer la concurrence italienne, la France offre sur les trois années à venir une aide de 30 millions d'euros à l'entreprise Trenitalia sur la ligne Paris-Marseille qui a ouvert en juin 2025. La compagnie italienne avait déjà reçu 50 millions d'euros en 2022 lorsqu'elle s’était lancée sur la ligne Paris-Lyon en 2021.

Trenitalia peut donc financer en partie sa politique marketing agressive grâce à l’argent public des contribuables français… et proposer des billets moins chers que ceux de la SNCF Voyageurs, elle aussi financée par les mêmes contribuables.

Autrement dit, pour se soumettre aux directives européennes et donc à la loi du marché libre et non faussé, on fausse le marché en subventionnant avec de l’argent public l'installation d’entreprises concurrentes à nos entreprises publiques…
