Over 300 musicians signed an open letter backing the Internet Archive as it fights a copyright suit brought over its preservation of 78rpm records.Jon Blistein (Rolling Stone)
I think the issue the music industry has is that it's become superfluous. In the old days the only way to get national exposure and distribution was to get a contract with a major label. They'd press samples, distribute them to radio stations, and then produce product and distribute it to retailers.
These days anyone can hire someone to put together a website with a payment gateway and advertise online. The labels no longer serve a purpose except to sap earnings from musicians.
*Put "a genocide" in songs lyrics*
This happen already.
Example : It's getting too dark
too dark to see
feels like
a genocide
(knocking on heaven's door :tired)
(that thing you do here on mastodon)
How can you preserve something that's rottening, don't touch my degradation, how dare you. The things are destined to be lost and obsolete, like shellac records.
-:up (the smylies are not working again)
and so on.
but there is something rotten there. it seems like they're bored with their money in a sick way.
They're also demanding that the music industry realign their actions with the interests of working artists. Sign their open letter now to show your support!
