they've found a new market for people to spend money on useless things.

It used to be individual purchases (aside from the period when mining was done on commercial GPUs), and whilst useless, was at least fun.

Now it is in bulk, for something that is both useless, wrong, and successfully replacing millions of... checks notes... voice actors with AI replacements.
