in reply to The Markup • •What this article fails to mention, and being partly native American myself and seeing these issues in family members:
1) Native Americans have a VERY HIGH alcoholism rate, this ruins livers and is the
chief reason failed livers are so high amongst native Americans.
2) It doesn't make sense to give a new liver to someone who is going to ruin it
with alcoholism when there is someone else who could live many years with it.
3) Being a relatively small part of the population and being as a genetic match
is required, that right there cuts your chances of a successful match down even
not considering disqualifications for alcoholism.
What this article should focus on is the alcoholism that leads to this issue in the
first place and how to stop ruining the liver one is born with.
