The media seems so keen on Ozempic etc - but IMO it seems weird that people have to routinely inject a medication with unpleasant side effects simply to counteract the unhealthy food environment which capitalism has created.

And this is a perfectly normal, long-term viable thing? Waiting for the other boot to drop, as it usually does with these miracle cures.

Following up from my last post, here's an interesting piece about the negative psychological impact of taking Ozempic etc:

The thing which angers me is that people with #Diabetes have found this (and related drugs) to be a huge help, and there is a real need there -- and it has been hyped to the max as an obesity drug, which is used by people who don't need it, thus creating a worldwide shortage for the people who do need it. This ENRAGES me, and is yet another demonstration that the corporate "going viral" model of social media causes real harm.

Ok - I didn’t eat crap food, and I was still large, (at one stage about 130kg, and I’m 5’6”) due to a medical condition (PCOS) and genetics, and it took a pretty severe medical intervention (a complete hysterectomy including removal of ovaries) and probably 8 years to get to a healthy weight. It wasn’t due to an unhealthy food environment in my case. Maybe I’m an outlier, but I wasn’t stuffing my face with chips and lollies and sugary soft drinks and take aways; I was always cooking healthy meals and bringing my own healthy lunches. Would I have tried something like Ozempic if it had been around then? Probably, because the stigma of being fat was such a burden.

I recently had a doctor use that I would likely spend less on food as a rational for why a VERY expensive, non-PBS drug similar to Ozempic might be worth it.

I wish people would stop treating ozempic as a miracle drug. It doesn't guarantee weight loss. I took it for its intended purpose. While it did help with my blood sugar I lost no weight at all
