Hell no and Nvidia can fuck off. And MS too for that matter, and anyone else who pulls this crap.

So, Nvidia and MS want us to be nice to the massive scam that is GenAI because their grifts are deservingly getting negative attention for, well, being grifts.

*No!* As long as I still have free speech, I will be as scathing towards GenAI as I want.

@DFX4509B (Joshua Mason) I imagine Luddites felt the same way about the steam engine and later the internal combustion engine, but without it farms would not be able to support the current population and our streets would still be covered with horse shit.

Myself, I just bought an Arc B50 Pro GPU with the intent of getting LLAMA up and running on it.

skribe doesn't like this.

@DFX4509B (Joshua Mason) Skribe sorry you feel that way. Personally I want to see humans persist as a species. I see a situation where we are rapidly depleting commercially recoverable fossil fuels and if we don't have a viable replacement in place before they deplete we all starve to death.

Molten salt breeder reactors are a viable short term solution, controlled hydrogen fusion a viable long term. To make the latter work AI is about the only way to adjust fields rapidly enough to prevent instability. In addition to it's applicability in this realm, it is also useful for things like alpha fold protein folding prediction that can help us with new drugs, diagnostics, coding.

We are in a regime where the birth rate is lower than the replacement rate, this means fewer and fewer young will be available to support the aging. AI and robotics are about the only viable solution to this.

So in as much as it may inconvenience your gaming by requiring you stick with a frame rate of 335 instead of 557 because much of the newer silicon is being used for AI, I see it as existential not mere convenience.
