I have an uncontrollable fear of turning right into oncoming traffic. Filter lane or flow control lights is fine but I will drive miles out of my way and make three left turns before I cross a lane of traffic. I'll walk or take public transport before doing a roundabout.

you'd love it in Washington State, there's left turn arrows on nearly every light for absolutely no reason other than to cater to people like you, I guess? (Though it sounds like you'd have to learn to drive on the other side of the road, IDK what that might do to your crazy phobia.)

Wouldn't be an issue except that they turn red and you can't turn even though you can clearly see that no one is coming.

The reason you need left turn lights here in Washington are the morons who when making left turns rather than enter the intersection and then wait for either a clearing or the light to change, instead wait outside of it and need a clearing at least five blocks long to turn, and when it doesn't happen and the light turns red they, and everyone behind them, is stuck there for yet another traffic cycle.
