The very first bar of this graph is misleading, because there are two fundamentally very different kinds of equality, equality of outcome and equality of opportunity. I believe in the latter not the former. The only way to achieve the former is for everyone to starve to death which communism has shown historically to be an inevitable outcome. If your outcome is going to be the same whether you sit on your fat ass and twiddle your thumbs or you go out and do your absolute best to contribute to a productive economy, then people are going to be incentivized to do nothing and everyone starves to death. If you give more rewards to productive people, then at least a part of the population is going to be motivated to produce and the outcome is better. It's worse for the lazy people than for those who apply themselves but even for the lazy it's better than equality of outcome is because they will get some portion of what is produced and something will be produced to apportion.
