Global Warming / Climate Change / Green Energy

The problem with all this alarmist propaganda is that people who are not impoverished will become so, people who are already below the poverty line will literally starve to death.

This is not to say we should not invest heavily on Green Energy, we should. But it is to say that we should not artificially reduce the supply of fossil fuel energy. As renewables come online they will economically replace fossil fuels and this is fine. What is not fine is reducing the supply of fossil fuel energy sources before replacements are available in adequate quantity.

The reason we should move to renewables is not primarily environmental, it is economic to allow for our future growth as a species. Any extractive technology becomes increasingly expensive over time, because we go for the low hanging fruit first, the oil that seeps out of the ground or we poke a hole and it comes out under pressure. Then we go for the oil we need to pump out, then oil we need to frack, and eventually oil we need to drill deeper for, all of which becomes progressively more expensive, and this is just oil.

When you consider all the other raw materials we mine, many of them are heavy metals and thus only available in very limited quantities near the surface because the Earth is largely gravitationally separated. And while there is for all practical purposes an infinite supply of these metals in asteroids, the energy costs of getting to them are huge, another reason we should invest heavily in renewables or alternative energy sources such as molten salt fission reactors and controlled hydrogen fusion.

Mankind must become an interplanetary species, else it is just a matter of time until a large impact event or volcanic event eliminates us. To do so requires resources both construction materials and energy resources, so let's not set ourselves back just to enrichen the members of the World Economic Forum.
