in reply to Nanook • •Big Clive shows you how to do it on some lamps. You have to pry the cover off, crush one surface mount resistor, and put the cover back on.
But not all lamps have removable covers, or use that particular current regulator.

Each globe has six 'filaments' in it. Over about 2 or 3 years, every one of them has lost four filaments. The remaining two still light up, dimly. So my choice is to replace them, or muddle along in dim light.
