In High School, in Physical Chemistry, we had labs. Every time, the lab never really went quite right. They sort of worked, to varying degrees, to prove the "hypothesis" we were assigned, and everyone in class kind of fudged the "numbers" and "observations" to make sure the final report lined up with what we were supposed to have done so we would get a good grade.
At that time I thought us dumb kids just don't know how to do science correctly. Turns out this is EXACTLY how to do science.
In my chem labs, people knew what they were supposed to 'find'. So they rushed thru sloppily & faked their data. Not perfectly, mind you. Off just enough to make it look like student's work.
