I just compiled and am running a 5.16.0 Linux kernel. I had been running 5.13.19, because 5.14 was unstable (crashed if you looked at it wrong) and 5.15 was as slow as molasses in liquid helium, audio skipped, graphics performance was not great, system load was high and most CPU cycles were spent in kernel time. It seemed to have severe issues with context switching and interrupt handling.
So far my impressions of 5.16.0 are very different. No audio skip, seems to respond well, graphics are on par with 5.13. If it remains stable I'll be happy. Unfortunately, the kernel development folks have slated 5.15 to be a long term release which is unfortunate since it's performance is shit.
By contrast 5.16 on a i7-9700k machine with 32gb of RAM clocked at 4.9Ghz, with a MariaDB, a Windows 10 VM running Flyff (a 3DMMORPG), Winamp running under Wine, Firefox, the Mate Desktop and half a Dozen mate-terminals and various widgets, it has a load average of only 2.6, that means 5 cores are sitting idle and one is only partially occupied, and at that 26% CPU in userspace, only 1.9% in kernel space. so HUGE improvement over 5.15.

Automatic Restart and Alarm for Web Service

Because 2.4.52 version of Apache seems to have a bug that causes it to occasionally stall, and because earlier versions have a root exploit that makes returning to them unfeasible, I wrote an automatic recovery script to recover the server in the event of a failure.
What it does is automatically test the web server for a proper response every five minutes. If it fails to respond, it attempts to restart apache, waits a minute to give it time to spool up, then retests.
If the second test is good it logs the failure so I can keep track of how often it is failing. If the second test fails, it turns my speaker volume up to 100%, and I have 100-watts per channel so that’s 200 watts worth of noise and then sends the Star Trek Next Generation Red Alert sound effect to the speakers. I should hear that pretty much no matter what if I’m here, and also sends an e-mail so if I’m out I will be notified via my tablet or laptop.
Hopefully this will prevent long outages like that which occurred last night when Apache decided to silently hang.

My HP5455 all-in-wonder crapped out and I bought an HP 2755 as a replacement, not realizing at the time that it lacked a document feeder and fax and the scanner does not work. I am used to HP being pretty much plug-n-play under Linux, NOT THIS machine, so spent several hours of troubleshooting.
Finally said fuck it, booted Windows and tried it, no device driver available. So I went to HP's site, they've supposedly got a device driver but when I click on install it does not.
I tried their HP Smart program and their HP Scanner and Driver Doctor program, neither were helpful.
I then got a hold of someone in customer support via chat. Teats on a bore hog he was. He finally got flustered and abruptly terminated the conversation.
So this pile of shit is going back to Amazon from whence it came. Just warning others in case you are considering a similar purchase.

I don't know how many of you have seen some of the recent propaganda trying to blame a recent increase in heart attacks on the legalization of marijuana to deflect from Pfiezer and Moderna heart attacks, but I just watched one such presentation on Youtube and proved that what they said was complete bullshit.
The guy giving the presentation showed a graph as what happens to your heart rate if you smoke a joint, and they show heart rate at 70 bpm, shooting up to 100, and then he also says there is less oxygen available to the heart and more carbon monoxide and all these things increase your risk of dying from a heart attack 400%.
Ok, those were a couple of things easy to test. I happen to have a pulse oximeter, this is a little device you clip on a finger and it give you a little graph of your heart pulse, and has a read-out for beats per minute and a read out for your hemoglobin's oxygen saturation.
So I clipped that onto my finger, filled a pipe with some 27% THC smoke, inhaled deeply and watched the results. I started at 79bpm, 98% O2 saturation, two bowls later, I'm still hovering around 79bpm and still at 98% O2 saturation two pipe loads later. So the amount of CO I inhaled wasn't sufficient to reduce my O2 saturation to a measurable degree and 98% is reasonably good (generally you want to be between 94-100% and if I take a couple of deep breaths I can get it to 100% but generally mine hovers at about 98%). Anyway, two pipe bowls of really a pretty high grade marijuana 27% THC, and nada effect on my heart rate or O2 saturation. Thus I don't know where he got his graph but it was obviously fictional.
And Marijuana has been around a long time, and the statistics show that legalization has not resulted in huge increases of usage, 13.7 to 17.9% in surveyed adults, and one wonders if all who used admitted to it when it was illegal? So there is no way you can explain such a large surge in heart attacks to such a small percentage of increase.
Between my actual measurements discrediting his affirmations regarding heart rate and oxygen availability and simple logic, I must deduce this is just a deflection on the part of Pfiezer and Moderna to take the heat off the heart attacks the death jab is causing.

This goes back much further than other historical accounts of the Gates family lineage I've found. Wish I could say I'm surprised that inbreeding was involved, but not, but I think that explains why other histories don't go back past William Gates, Sr.

I just found out Harry Nilsson died on Dec 28th, kind of bumbed about that. Very much enjoyed some of his work, like the Land of Point, Jump Into the Fire, Coconut, and he was getting ready to do a concert and perform the Land of Point story live.
I was trying to find out if he just got recently jabbed like Betty White did just before she died. Yes she was almost 100, but getting jabbed and dying three days later is still more coincidence than I'm comfortable with. And likewise, Nilsson was 80, so might well have been natural causes.

We had a web server issue causing intermittent failure of the web server. I thought this was load related as the server is quite heavily loaded, but it did it today during a time of very light load. I was able to chase the problem down to a cronjob being run on a wordpress site automatically configured to redirect to secure mode when the certificate had expired. The cronjobs were never exiting and ran once a minute and simply piled up until memory was exhausted causing failure of other services. Normally I get automatic notifications when certificates are about to expire but did not in this instance. I’ve ordered a new certificate and commented out the cron job until it arrives and can be installed.
