Since Diaspora apparently will not allow me to comment on this, I'll just re-post and do it.

The article states that "Foul Play is Not Suspect", yea 36 year olds just "die" for no apparent reason, especially those hated by the deep state. The CIA is very capable of making it's assassinations look "natural".

Friendica Traffic Weirdness

I normally see between 4-5 hits/second on my webserver, about half of which is friendica traffic. Today it is 7.5 hits/second and the majority is friendica tag searches. These are coming from addresses all over the place so it would seem to be a botnet of some sort, but the nature of what it is doing does not make sense.

If the intent were to overload my server then I would expect those searches to be full-text searches rather than tag searches because the former are more CPU intensive.

If the intent were to use up my bandwidth, I'd expect a much higher level of attack and targets that return larger bodies of text. As it is these are only consuming less than 5% of my available bandwidth.

The level of traffic is slowly creeping up overtime. Looking up the IP addresses, MOST have no inverse DNS at all, few that do usually come back to private machines or servers in clouds.

I imagine this level of traffic might be an issue for some smaller web servers but if the intent were just to destroy I'd expect traffic at much higher levels and with a much faster ramp-up.

So I'm at a loss as to understand what is going on. Anyone have any ideas?

Open letter:

Together against state-sponsored hacking

2021-06-02 05:06:53,

erdgeist

In an open letter, an overwhelmingly broad alliance opposes the German government's legislative plans, which would greatly expand the permission to infect computers and devices with state sponsored trojans and at the same time weaken encryption measures

ccc.de/en/updates/2021/offener…

With the Gesetz zur Anpassung des Verfassungsschutzrechts (Law on the Adaptation of the Protection of the Constitution), all German intelligence services are to be given a right to hack devices at will.

The update to the Bundespolizeigesetz (Federal Police Act) is intended not only to allow the agency to use so-called "state trojans" – a state-sponsored backdoor –, but also to allow it to hack people who have not committed or are suspected of committing a crime.

However, even the excessive extension of trojan horse deployments is not enough: Internet service providers are to be obliged to cooperate in the infection of their customers' devices. Apparently, end-to-end encrypted messengers in particular are to be actively weakened.

"That would deal the death blow to any trust relationship between users and providers," said Linus Neumann, spokesperson for the CCC.

Friendica Retention / Access of Old Messages

I believe I have my Friendica node configured to retain things for a year, yet the longest I've been able to scroll back is 30 days and sometimes as little as four hours.

At first I thought this was a retention issue but now I think it is a retrieval issue because sometimes after only being able to go back a few hours, I am later able to go back days or a few weeks.

If anyone else is experiencing this, could you please add a note to to bug #10382 on the Github friendica issues site:
Thank you in advance.

@satyaahimsa What I had hoped to point out and I guess was missed, is that having the same reaction is not subjectively the same as having the same experience but that is a purely internal subjective matter. If you have no soul, no internal subjective state, then you will not understand this. To you 'red' is just a word, a color, a wavelength, but has no subjective experience, you don't know what red looks like only that it stimulates your red sensor.

Clean Meat

So called "clean meat", basically animal meat grown from cell cultures that would allow us humans to eat the omnivore diet we are genetically accustomed to without taking the lives of other sentient beings.

On the surface it sounds like a good idea, but I've been wondering about some things. For example, cows eat grass, but a cell culture requires more raw nutrients and I wonder about the environmental impact of providing those nutrients verses providing grass for cows to eat, and I wonder what kind of waste products result verses cow excrement.

Since such meat will result in cattle not being bred and thus not even coming into existence in the first place, what will be the effect of the resulting net decrease in sentience on the planet? I think that the evolution of sentience is God's and / or the universes way of knowing itself, and I use and / or here because I believe that creator and it's creation are not so separate as people generally believe.

I believe Jesus in as much stated this when he said if we do as he commands we can be in him as he is in the Father which is to say all in one. I believe we separate ourselves from God and the rest of sentient beings when we behave in a way that is incongruent with God's will and God's will is loving, so that is to say when we behave in a way that is unloving. So I wonder if we replace all the animals we farm and then slaughter with cell cultures, thus eliminating that huge pool of sentience, will we be doing God's will or opposing it?

Don't Think

I've got a friend in New York, she is relatively intelligent, computer literate, scientifically literate, yet she is flaming liberal falls for all the current woke bullshit. When I attempt a discussion her immediate response is, "Let's not go there". I do not know how we are ever going to get past this social problem if even relatively intelligent adults can't discuss it.

Bad Week for Mechanics and Electronics

Thursday morning when I started my car (a '96 Taurus SHO) it had a regular and bad misfire, it had been running perfectly the night before. Turns out rats
built a nest and chewed through a spark plug wire.

Then I had to do kernel upgrades and on one of my servers that is always a
challenge because it has special drivers for a type of flash card that supports
something known as atomic writes, basically bypass cache and write directly to
flash. The reason for this hardware is a very high performance mariadb that helps make friendica fast.

For some reason dkms didn't install right so had to rebuild the drivers with new kernel. All in all was a major pain.

Then went to upgrade the OS on a customers private virtual which has Devaun installed and it blew up and much effort to recover didn't succeed, ended up with a dependency loop I could not resolve so restored from backups and will try again when I'm in the mood.

Then my workstation, when I upgraded it from Ubuntu-Mate 20.10 to 21.04, it blew up. I thought I had fixed everything but tonight I ran into a dependency loop issue with some out of date libraries and could not successfully resolve so I was about to re-install on it when I dumped a glass of coke over, some of which was absorbed by my nice logitech mouse and it ceased function.

So ran to Wallimart, the only thing computer wise open at 10:45, got there five minutes before closing and they only had one cheap-ass wired mouse, only logitechs were wireless and I really don't care to be feeding batteries continuously so picked up the cheap ass wired mouse and ordered a new logitech off of Amazon (yes straight from the devil himself).

Oh I've had better weeks. At least my cats were nice to me this morning with one of them head butting and puring away. I think I may marinate myself a bit tonight.
